🎈 Yay tax time!

Good morning Reader,

The big financial news this week was the release of DeepSeek, an AI out of China that may be better than existing AI models out there and made at a fraction of the cost.

NVIDIA stock dropped 17% on the news ($600 billion in market cap lost) because it could be a signal that people won't need as many of their expensive chips going forward. Time will tell.

Tech is a huge component of the S&P 500 (NVIDIA accounts for ~2.80% of the S&P 500 too), which is why those index funds dropped (around 1.50%) on Monday.

I'm not doing anything differently (I never do) but my month-end automatic transfers will be a smidge cheaper than a week ago!

🏛️ Federal Reserve meets this week

And there's a really good chance they don't move interest rates.

The economy is doing well, inflation is OK, and the Fed won't cut (or raise) interest rates in times like this. The markets agree, with futures indicating there's a 99.5% chance rates stay the same.

There's a miniscule 0.5% chance they drop it by 25 basis points... Trump would love a cut but it seems extremely unlikely.

Hi, I'm Jim Wang and I share my strategies and tactics for managing your money and enjoying more out of life.

I have been writing about money for nearly 20 years and believe that personal finance is one of those subjects that is made complicated because it benefits a select few. Our aim is to help make it easier to understand so that regular folks can use what we teach to take control of their money and build wealth.

Good morning Reader, In a few days, we'll be celebrating the 4th with good friends and it's a fun mid-year reminder that it's good to celebrate from time to time. How will you be spending the 4th? (View this email as a webpage) 🥳 This is why rituals are important I wrote this article in the fall, hence the emphasis on pumpkin spiced lattes, but it explains how rituals can elevate every day experiences. It's a life lesson I try to bake into everything our family does and I think it works quite...

Hello Reader, It seems like every year we get a new name for a weather event and this week it was "heat dome." I was just in Dallas, Texas and returned to Maryland where it was hotter. It was 91 when I left Texas and it was 97 here! (My wife took a picture of our thermometer and it said 102!) If you're experiencing the heat dome too (which hopefully is ending today), stay cool! Hello Reader, Has summer started for you yet? Today marks the final day of public school for our kids and so it'll be chaos in our home until camps start next week. When I was younger adult, I thought you should have school in the summer. Between the summer slide and worrying about childcare, it made no sense. But as our kids are getting older, I prefer the summers off. It's good for kids to have fun. Education and academics are important but are they the most important? Eh... I'm not sure....
