โŒ› Are you an optimizer or a satisficer?

Good morning Reader?

When I was younger, I was very much an optimizer. I had the time to analyze and study and deliberate on what was best.

As I've gotten older and my responsibility has increased, I've slowly morphed into a satisficer. That's someone who is quick to make decisions and that may mean you don't get the optimal result, but a "good enough" one.

This is why I invest in index funds, have just a few credit cards, and automate practically everything.

I really enjoyed Christine Benz's article on the subject titled "Whatโ€™s a โ€˜Good Enoughโ€™ Financial Plan?" and at the risk of confirmation bias, has made me feel good about what I'd maybe consider laziness. ๐Ÿคฃ

๐Ÿฅธ Stealth wealth

Real wealth is often silent.

Think rappers and rock stars vs. Waltons and Rockefellers.

Here's why being quiet with your money is better:

โฑ๏ธ Fed is very probably cutting rates

It may sound like a broken record but there's a very good chance the Fed lower rates by another 25 basis points. Fed futures contracts imply an 89.6% chance they do. Good for borrowers, bad for savers.

If you want to get ahead of the curve, now's a good time to lock short term savings into a CD.

โ€‹CD Valet is a site that collects rate information from what feels like thousands of banks and credit unions. It's one of the best places to look for CDs and where I go to first.

Their top rate is a 4.25% APY 9-mo from Seattle Bank, available nationwide. It's worth a look:

๐Ÿš— When did you last compare car insurance?

If you haven't shopped around for car insurance in the last year, you should.

Step 1. Find out what a new company will offer you.

Step 2. See if your current company will match or beat it.

Either way, you win!

Hi, I'm Jim Wang and I share my strategies and tactics for managing your money and enjoying more out of life.

I have been writing about money for nearly 20 years and believe that personal finance is one of those subjects that is made complicated because it benefits a select few. Our aim is to help make it easier to understand so that regular folks can use what we teach to take control of their money and build wealth.

How are you doing Reader? It's felt like every investment has gone up this year. Stock market, bonds, precious metals, crypto... But crypto has been getting hammered lately and one of the reasons is known as the "yen carry trade." It sounds more complicated that it is - it just means that when Japan has low interest rates, people borrow in yen, exchange it into U.S. dollars, and then invest the money in assets in a higher rate economy (i.e. United States). When the Bank of Japan hints at...

Good morning Reader, To those who observe Thanksgiving, Happy almost-Turkey Day! It's one of my favorite holidays not because of the food but because it's a reminder of how good we have it. It doesn't matter if the year has been good or bad, the fact that we can spend it with family and friends makes it better. I hope you are able to spend it with the ones you care about. And, can I ask a small favor? Would you be able to add Wallet Hacks to your list of Preferred Sources in Google? Go to...

Good morning Reader, The final penny rolled off the Mint a week ago and now the U.S. Mint is auctioning off 24K gold three-coin sets. You can tell they're part of the final run because, well, they're made of gold but also because they have a special Omega (โ„ฆ) privy mark. I get that the Mint sells coins for a profit... ... but this one feels a little weird. What do you think?
