πŸ“˜ How full is your passport?

Good morning Reader!

Two days ago, our schools closed early because there was a big storm coming through with threat of tornados. Understandably, they didn't want school buses out there shuttling kids while warnings were in effect.

The storm ended up not being nearly as bad and some clamored to Facebook to complain about the forecast... which I found mind-boggling.

It's like paying for car insurance and then complaining you never got into an accident. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best... but you don't complain when the best happens!

We have enough negative news in the world, I'll take the win wherever I can get it.

πŸ›‚ Blank Passport Pages

Seasoned travelers know that your passport can't expire within 6 months of entering another country but did you know that many require multiple blank pages for stamps?

Most only need 1 but several need more than one and you could be denied entry if you don't have enough:

πŸ“… FTC Refund Programs

When the FTC enforces consumer protection laws and gets refunds, they aren't always great about getting the word out.

These aren't recalls or class action settlements, these are when the FTC catches someone doing something bad and collects on a fine or penalty.

See if you're owed any cash:

πŸ“± ATMs didn't kill bank teller jobs...

... iPhones did.

This article is a great history lesson for everyone who didn't grow up in the 1950s and 60s while also establishing a good framework for how to think about AI and its potential impact on the workforce.

PS. FYI, Oxford Economics models that if oil gets to $140/barrel for two months, it would push the EU, UK, and Japan into recession and the US would likely join too. If you're concerned, it's best to start preparing now. (it cannot hurt)

I have been writing about money for nearly 20 years and believe that personal finance is one of those subjects that is made complicated because it benefits a select few. Our aim is to help make it easier to understand so that regular folks can use what we teach to take control of their money and build wealth.

Good morning Reader! The Iran war is now longer and bigger than initially expected and it's going to impact your finances in ways beyond the stock market. For now, the biggest concern beyond the human toll is the price of oil. A barrel of crude flew above $100 earlier in the week, which hasn't happened since July 2022, before falling back down to under $85 yesterday. Energy goes into everything and so the longer the war lasts, the more prices will stay higher because of higher fuel and...

Good morning Reader! Yesterday shows you just how impossible it is to predict the stock market. The Dow fell over a 1200 points (with other indices doing similarly) before recovering to a loss of just 400. Why? The war in Iran. But that started over the weekend, why did investors until Tuesday to have their panic? That's hard to say. But the best guess is that we expected something similar to Venezuela (US swoops in, snatches Maduro, conflict ends) but Iran didn't lie down. Longer conflicts,...

Good morning Reader! The news out of Mexico is scary and goes to show that things like that can happen out of seemingly nowhere. Granted, I don't follow the news in the region, certainly not cartel related, but it went from zero to 10 in an instant. I felt the same when we were flying back from the Dominican Republic over New Years. One day we're celebrating 2026, the next day we're watching the United States go insto Venezuela and seize Maduro. Flights out of Puerto Rico were stopped. We...
