ðŸĪĒ Cyclospora, daylight savings, and cookie stealing

Good morning Reader!

A few general purpose news items to share with you this week:

  • This cyclospora thing is nuts. It's been going on for weeks, there are thousands of cases across 34 states, and we still don't know the root cause other than it's fresh produce. Michigan thinks it might be lettuce or salad greens. All advice says cook your food and avoid fresh produce (for now).
  • We also might be saying bye to changing our clocks. The House of Representatives approved a bill to make daylight savings permanent. Next we'll see if the Senate agrees and whether President Trump will somehow make this about him. ðŸĪĢ
  • Finally, the FBI warns that you shouldn't check the "Remember me?" box when you log into important accounts as thieves could steal the cookie to bypass 2-factor authentication. (my video explains more)

🊙 Two Coin Buying Offers

pfsBuyerClub is a service that helps its members get hard to buy coins from the U.S. Mint. I joined as a coin seller, so I opt into deals, try to buy coins from the Mint, and I re-sell them at a pre-agreed price. I've done this a few times, here's my writeup of the experience.

There are two offers right now:

  1. July 21: Buy ten American Eagle 2026 One Ounce Silver Enhanced Uncirculated Coin for ~$1700 and PFS will pay you $1800 = $100 profit.
  2. July 16: Buy one Freedom Ringing – Liberty Bells - One-Half Ounce Silver Medal for ~$755 and PFS will pay you $1000 = $244 profit. (there's also the Gold coin at $10k with $250 in profit but you have to get the silver medal too.. don't buy the gold coin first!)

I'm skipping #1 but trying to do #2 (silver coin only). You can always opt in and decide not to do it (or fail to buy the coin, which happens when they inevitably sell out)

If you want to join, it's free, and here's my referral link:

Hi, I'm Jim Wang and I share my strategies and tactics for managing your money and enjoying more out of life.

I have been writing about money for nearly 20 years and believe that personal finance is one of those subjects that is made complicated because it benefits a select few. Our aim is to help make it easier to understand so that regular folks can use what we teach to take control of their money and build wealth.

Good morning Reader! It seems that every week brings a new economic crisis. Whether it's the Iran war or the Fed flattening the yield curve or more retaliatory tariffs with our largest trading partners, there's always something. If you try to pay attention to it all, you're going to be overwhelmed. And it'll all be out of date next week. When it comes to your money, have a plan and stay the course. Invest early and often, save for a rainy day, and don't let the news impact your mental state....

Good morning Reader! I can't believe summer is almost over. 😭 Our kids go back next week and it feels like we just let out! As we navigate the chaos of that last week of summer, here's a few things that caught my eye this week: 💚 Small favor to ask - I was nominated in the Debt.com FinTalk Awards under Best Short-Form Content and need your votes if you think I'm worthy! You can vote three times a day (and 3x for the same person ðŸĨ°) every single day until September 14th. FedEx is refunding...

Good morning Reader! If you're wondering why the stock market is doing so well while Americans seem to be so pinched by inflation, the answer is technology. AI is clearly fueling this incredible run in the market even though many consumers are feeling squeezed. Remember, the stock market is NOT the economy. Interest rates might go up this year and anyone holding onto variable debt will see their payments go up. Higher rates are great when you're a saver, tough when you're a borrower. We're...
