๐Ÿ’ต an overvalued market?

How are you doing Reader?

It's felt like every investment has gone up this year. Stock market, bonds, precious metals, crypto...

But crypto has been getting hammered lately and one of the reasons is known as the "yen carry trade." It sounds more complicated that it is - it just means that when Japan has low interest rates, people borrow in yen, exchange it into U.S. dollars, and then invest the money in assets in a higher rate economy (i.e. United States).

When the Bank of Japan hints at increasing interest rates, the trade starts to "unwind." People sell their investments, exchange it back to yen, and pay off their debts.

When this happens, everything that has gone up (propped up by borrowing and leverage), will face downward pressure as money leaves the market.

No one knows how big this trade is. When it unwinds, investments in the US falls.

๐Ÿซ  What to do with an overvalued stock market

Before the yen carry trade, there was already talk that the stock market was overvalued and that AI is a bubble.

Those are all true.

But what should you do about it?

Here are some sensible steps to take that do not involve timing the market:

๐Ÿฆ Raisin new account bonus

โ€‹Raisin updated their new account bonus and it's a little bit different than before. You can get up to $1,600 when you make a big deposit (no direct deposit required) but it's paid out quarterly.

The bonus works out to be 0.60% of the low end of the deposit, so you can view it as adding 0.60% in interest to whatever account you put it in.

Right now, there's a high yield savings account offering 4.25% APY for 60 days as well as several CDs that all offer more than 4% APY.

Hi, I'm Jim Wang and I share my strategies and tactics for managing your money and enjoying more out of life.

I have been writing about money for nearly 20 years and believe that personal finance is one of those subjects that is made complicated because it benefits a select few. Our aim is to help make it easier to understand so that regular folks can use what we teach to take control of their money and build wealth.

Good morning Reader, To those who observe Thanksgiving, Happy almost-Turkey Day! It's one of my favorite holidays not because of the food but because it's a reminder of how good we have it. It doesn't matter if the year has been good or bad, the fact that we can spend it with family and friends makes it better. I hope you are able to spend it with the ones you care about. And, can I ask a small favor? Would you be able to add Wallet Hacks to your list of Preferred Sources in Google? Go to...

Good morning Reader, The final penny rolled off the Mint a week ago and now the U.S. Mint is auctioning off 24K gold three-coin sets. You can tell they're part of the final run because, well, they're made of gold but also because they have a special Omega (โ„ฆ) privy mark. I get that the Mint sells coins for a profit... ... but this one feels a little weird. What do you think? Good morning Reader, At last check, the government looks to be on the verge of reopening after eight Democrats agreed to the resolution in return for a promise of a vote on Affordable Care Act subsidies. Despite what you may think about the politics of the matter, we can all agree it's crazy our country punishes itself like this every few months. Oh, and in the meantime, we haven't gotten any government reports but Goldman Sachs thinks we lost 50,000 jobs in October. That's not good. (View...
