✈️ New DOT delay exceptions for airlines

Good morning Reader!

If you're concerned about gas prices, I have a simple tip - slow down. The faster you drive, the less efficient your car will be. And that means you are spending more money at the pump.

Instead of going 70 MPH, go 60.

It's also safer that way, up to a point. I wouldn't creep along at 45 on a highway but slower speeds means you have more time to react to surprises.

Slow down and arrive safe!

✈️ New DOT Delay Exceptions

There's a new Department of Transportation rule that changes how U.S. airlines handle some flight delays and cancellations. They added 10 new situations that are now considered out of the airline's control, which means they are not on the hook for providing lodging, food, or other services to affected passengers.

I created a tool that looks up the trip delay and cancellation policies of 27 popular credit cards so you can pick the right one to pay with.

These protections aren't as good as actual travel insurance but they're at no extra charge, so you might as well use them!

If you have a card not listed in the tool (and it has trip insurance), let me know and I'll add it!

Hi, I'm Jim Wang and I share my strategies and tactics for managing your money and enjoying more out of life.

I have been writing about money for nearly 20 years and believe that personal finance is one of those subjects that is made complicated because it benefits a select few. Our aim is to help make it easier to understand so that regular folks can use what we teach to take control of their money and build wealth.

Good morning Reader! As we all expected expected, the Fed raised rates by 25 basis points to 3.75%-4.00% with officials expecting one more increase this year. When you combine that with persistently high inflation, especially energy because of the Iran war, we're looking at higher prices on everything. I was in California last week (sunny and hot Palm Springs!) and the gas prices were eye-popping: Diesel is over $8, which means heating oil is going to be expensive this winter, no matter where...

Good morning Reader! 🙏 First, a massive THANK YOU! Your support and your votes pushed us into the lead in Debt.com's 2026 FinTalk Awards and we were able to win Best Short-Form Content! But more importantly than the award were your emails of support and love and thanks for these emails. It really means a lot to me to hear from you, thank you for reading! 💰 In financial news though, it's time for savers to shine. The Fed is meeting tomorrow and interest rate traders think there's an 92.4%...

Good morning Reader! A company recently reached out to me about their negotiation service. You give it all the bills you pay, they try to use AI to negotiate down the monthly charge, and you only pay if they are successful. (I'm not sharing their name because I want to learn more about it) I'm not entirely sure if they can help me personally as I try to negotiate one bill each month (that list has 12 targets). It doesn't always work. It doesn't have to though. I just give it a try and if it...
